Trip to Amuka - Northern Israel
We went for a few days to a romantic weekend in the North of Israel. We had a great time, met some good people and saw some beautiful places.
Over the past few years, as the tensions and violence erupted in Israel, the concept of Israeli tourism picked up and many guest houses (or “zimmer”) emerged. Today there are close to 7,000 spread out mostly in the North. These are usually run by a family that has a few rooms to let, very tesetfully decorated, sometimes offering breakfast and usually in a very pastural and relaxing atmosphere. Especially for us city slickers coming from the big cities in the center of Israel. Summer is still hot but the evenings are cool with a million stars and …QUITE.
We went to a place in a small mountainside forrest called Amukka. The place we stayed in was Kerem Dudim, one of the first to offer this unique expereince and we had a great time. The family offers 2 rooms that are cave like, beautifully decorated, including a sun balcony, a Jacouzi and sounds of streaming water in an indoor gold fish pond. Great people too.
Amuka is ten minutes away from Rosh Pina. Rosh Pina is a small Northen town that sits on some mountains that get a great view of the entire Galile, all the way down to the sea of Galile. The town has been known for its old streets strawn with small gift shops and galleries. There are some great spots and beautiful restaurants to have a drink and a good meal. The city was always known for its artists and today also hosts a naturalist and hollistic community that calls the town home. Being built on the side of a mountain the town has magnificient views and a tranquil feeling about it.

On the way back we stopped in Old Akko (Acre). The walls of the city, its fortresses and citadels, its churches and mosques make it very unique. There is a small market and excellent seafood available. We saw some local kids jumping from the walls of the city into the sea and after spending a few days in the Northern mountains it was nice to be by the sea again.

I found your site through NewsMax.com and really enjoyed reading the articles that you published. I especially liked your trip to Northern Israel and the Maccabiah games report. Your pictures are terrific. (One stubborn pic refused to load, though.) This is a really beautiful country. Thanks. I hope that you’ll continue to blog it.

Hi there,
Your information is very helpful.
There are two families (4 adults; 4 children)that are planning a trip to Israel this summer. We would like to stay in this area. However, we are finding the housing prices very expensive. Perhaps that’s because the dollar to the schekel is so low. We are on a very tight budget ($100 per night) do you have any suggestions of places that we can stay in this area?
