Going to the Doctor

I went for a check up yesterday. Just regularly scheduled maintenance, nothing special. The office is on the fourth floor of an office building on a main street in Tel Aviv. As I am browsing the National Geographic magazines in the waiting room a bull horn sounds. “Please clear the street we have a suspicious object here”.

The police found an “unattached” object (can be a backpack or shopping bag) sitting in a public area without an owner. I keep reading the magazine. Traffic in the street outside grinds to a halt. No cars or busses are heard. I am reading an article about Petra, some great shots in there.

The doctor’s secretary calls me in to the Doctor. I come in and after the normal greetings we get to the examination. In the background the bull horn blares “Lady, please move away this area is closed”.

“Some noise out there” I say. “Yes”, the doctor replies. As he comes over to the examination table he peeks out the blinds, “Hmm, looks like its right under our building, can’t see anyone around”. He turns to me, “Say AHH” he says.

He places the blood pressure sleeve on my arm and begins the measurement. “We are about to blow the suspicious object, please stay out of the street!” The horn blares.

“Everything seems normal”, the doctors says, “bowl movements okay?” Fine I answer. In the background the mechanized police robot is heard coming up the street, sounds a little like a one of those model tanks.

As I walk back to the waiting room I stop by the secretary. Paying for the visit a woman walks in. “Nice weather out there, was traffic bad ?” the secretary asks the new arrival. “No, found a parking spot no problem and not much traffic at all”.

I guess we’re just like everyone else I thought to myself as I left, we worry about the weather and traffic.
