It’s all about good public relations, so they say. Many criticize Israel’s incompetent information policy, especially when seen in contrast to the Muslim ever-alert lobby, always willing to provide its own interpretation to the Middle Eastern conflict we seem to be unable to get ourselves out of. Whereas the Israeli authorities do not supply on-going official statements regarding the country’s burning, controversial issues, the other players in the game are happy to fill the world in.

As it seems, the Hezbollah guys are really on top of the Israeli goings-on. The relatively new Iranian-supported Hezbollah site, which offers news feeds containing mainly daily updates about the Israeli government and IDF in Arabic, Farsi, English and French, is now available online and in Hebrew. A very crooked Hebrew, actually (a Babelfish automatic translation, perhaps…?).

The site and its whacky translation were discovered by Dr. Mark Last, from the Dept. of Information Systems Engineering in Ben-Gurion University. Dr. Last himself was unsure about the exact motives behind the service the site owners have decided to offer Hebrew speakers, and assumed it could be their way of demoralizing Israeli patriots and appealing to extreme leftists.

I think it’s almost touching (though quite-quite pathetic). How many efforts have been taken by the naïve site owners, trying as best they can to “reach” the Hebrew-speaking international population…! It reminds me of the lovely “love letters” I received during the happy war days, being subscribed to a language-exchange on-line “community” (Ployglot, very nice).

One of my suitors was trying to draw me towards the light of wisdom:

“Dear honest and sincere Israeli Brother and Sister, Shalom on Those who follow the Guidance!
Please read these valuable few-page booklets carefully and slowly, SAVE THEM on your PC, and then forward and send them to all whom you love and care for in Israel and all Jews and non-Jews all over the world to spread The Plain Truth everywhere! ”
Some others were trying to more or less draw the recipent to the light at the end of the tunnel, by freaking the hell out of them (these I actually did save and forwarded, to my much amused friends).
