I received this from the JTA a Jewish News Service, regarding a piece they are doing on sexual misconduct amongst Rabbis and what the Jewish community is doing to help prevent further abuse.

Abuse of jewish women is a long time problem, especialy when
religious women come to consult with the Rabbi and ask for his
advice in personal difficulties or hardships they face, so far
most of these abusers escaped the punishment they deserved, because
the judicial system still ignores the complaints, and only in rare
and severe cases reluctantly punish these characters.
Part of the problem is the level of trust we give to clergy, they are human. However, as clergy, they are held to a higher standard and their correction should reflect that!
Abuse towards women is even worse in the Islamic world, as many recent events have shown.
Women in general suffer abuse in many countries, and manhy government authorities turn a blind eye towards it.
Regarding abuse by Jewish men towards women, its a shame and outright scandal that religious men do this, particularly the ultra orthodix.
The fact that many women are held in “aguna” or literally a limbo situation because their husbands refuse to give them a ‘et”
or religious divorce, makes the situation even more difficult.
God hates divorce. God hates violence too. Each is an individual situation, women need to be taught to turn to God for the answers rather than their abusive spouse. A “religious divorce” can only come from God. I can advise them this much, our God would rather we live in peace and love rather than hate and violence. God will provide. Answers and every other thing a women needs to be free from violent abuse. TRUST Him.
P.S. or a man for that matter. Yes, men are abused by women too. Abuse, no matter the relationship, husband-wife, wife-husband, parent-child, child-parent, is more about injury to the spirit, than injury to the body.
Love causes no injury. Lack of Love can be fatal.
