He was attached to General Omar Bradley's 1st Army corps that wound up in the thick of what became known as the Battle of the Bulge in December/January 1944/44. He died sometime in mid January 1945 and was a 1st Seargant in rank. The fact that he was age 31 and a Rabinical student when conscripted indicated that by 1944, available manpower was very tight, even for a large country like the USA. It's a lot different than today's professional volunteer military, but I wonder if the draft is actually better as it takes manpower from all sectors, both rich and poor, saints and sinners. He and all his fallen comrades are interned in Luxembourg Military Cemetary not so far from where he fell in that terrible battle. May his memory always be for a blessing.
