This is a very strong mineral and resists corrosion from acids produced by bacteria in our mouths thereby preventing cavities and caries. The fluoridation of drinking water has been called a great public health achievement as it reduces chronic tooth decay and has protected the quality of life for many people, especially those in low socio-economic status who may not be able to maintain proper hygiene. Yes I could agree with you that it is a violation of individual rights and does present a minor risk to health including the risk of skeletal fluorosis but the benefits afforded by fluoridation of drinking water far outweighs the almost negligible risk of health problems.
