Madonna In Tel Aviv Video

In case you missed it (I have no idea how…) Madonna was here and left last night. She was at the city of Safed yesterday (the Kabbalah capital) and met with Benjamin Netanyahu and Tzipi Livni on seperate occasions. Her concerts were a great success and the second show with tickets available was immediately sold out after the first show.

Madonna in Israel for Tel Aviv Concert

Madonna in IsraelJust when I thought I’ve seen it all, this happens. Madonna, on tour in the Holy Land for a Tel Aviv concert, went on a double date last night with Israeli opposition leader Tzipi Livni and her husband. But that’s not the funny part. The funny part is that Madonna, a student of pop Kabbalah, or Jewish mysticism, is in Israel with her boyfriend whose name just happens to be Jesus. Livni’s husband’s name is the relatively more Jewish sounding Naftali Shpitzer. I’m sure Jesus and Shpitzer hit up a storm. I’ll just leave it at that and call it a strange day.

It is actually reported – I mean people know about this, which is the surprising thing – that Madonna ordered fish and Jesus ordered meat. Witness described the couple as “happy.” That’s “good.”

Before her Tuesday night concert in Tel Aviv, Madonna headed to Jerusalem’s Old City and walked through the tunnel tour under the Wailing Wall. She was brought to the tunnel by police, not talking to any reporters, and then was escorted away half an hour later.

This is Madonna’s first concert in Israel since 1993, which she was young and blustery 35-year-old. She is now 51.
The pinnacle of her trip, besides the concert of course, is her high level meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, where the two will probably discuss solutions to the Middle East conflict. Her ideas couldn’t be worse than anyone else’s I guess.

I’m just joking. They’ll probably talk about…I really don’t know. But I’m anxiously awaiting the report on whether Madonna orders the fish or the pasta. And what Netanyahu thinks of Jesus.

Madonna’s Letter In Israel

Madonna
There is an old cliché: When the student is ready the teacher appears.

I had traveled the world many times over, performed in soccer stadiums, appeared in films, dined with state leaders, collaborated with great artists and achieved what most people would view as a high level of success but I still felt something was missing in my life.

I was pregnant with my daughter, almost 14 years ago and I had just finished the film Evita and realized I had spent my whole life worrying about myself, and that I would soon be responsible for someone else’s life.

I was raised a Catholic and my father was very religious but none of my questions ever really got answered when it came to trying to understand why people suffered in the world or what the meaning of life was all about.

And suddenly I thought, “What will I teach my child about the important things in life?”

I was practicing Yoga for years and studying Sanskrit. I had read many books by the great Yogi Masters and Indian Avatars. I studied Buddhism and the teachings of the Dali Lama. I studied Taoism and the Art of War.

I read about the Gnostics and the early Christians. I learned a lot and I was very inspired but I still could not connect the dots and find a way to take this knowledge and apply it to my daily life.

I was looking for an answer.

I went to a dinner party in L.A.

A woman sitting next to me was telling me about a class she was taking from a Rabbi.

She said it was so inspiring and that I should come along. I asked her what it was about.

She said, “Life.”

I asked her what it was called.

She said “Kabbalah.”

I told her I wasn’t Jewish and she said: “What difference does it make what it’s called and what religious upbringing you have had if you are inspired?”

She had a point.

So I went to the class and sat in the back and I listened to a man named Eitan teach the class.

I heard what he had to say and I knew at this moment my life would never be the same.

I began to go to the classes regularly and sit in the class with my notebook. No one bothered me. I took notes.

Red StringI met with Eitan privately and asked a lot of questions. The thing that was encouraged the most was to inquire further.

All the questions I had about life began to be answered and I realized I had finally found a “belief system” or philosophy that incorporated Science and Spirituality.

I was learning about Physics, Astronomy, Nature and the laws of Cause and Effect.

All the puzzle pieces started falling into place.

Life no longer seemed like a series of Random events. I started to see patterns in life. I woke up. I began to be conscious of my words and my actions and to really see the results of them.

I also began to see that being Rich and Famous wasn’t going to bring me lasting fulfillment and that it was not the end of the journey; that it was the beginning of the journey.

I have been studying with Eitan consistently since that first class and it was only a matter of time before I met Michael Berg, whose father Rav Berg comes from a long line of Kabbalists and was the teacher of Eitan.

Michael Berg is a very unique human being. He might be the smartest person I know.

At first he seemed quiet and shy, conservative and even perhaps a bit naïve. But ask him a question on any subject and you will find yourself swimming in an ocean of information.

It’s astounding what he knows and what he has accomplished at such a young age. The fact that he translated 22 volumes of the Zohar from Aramaic into Hebrew and English is remarkable.

The funny thing about Michael is that he is as comfortable and knowledgeable about discussing the teachings of the Ari as he is of discussing his favorite Seinfeld episode.

He knows more about Pop Culture and what’s going on in the world than anyone I know and yet his desire to really affect change in the world and the compassion he feels for people who are suffering is unparalleled.

When Michael gets up to tell a story in front of a room full of people there is never a dry eye in the house, including his own.

I am lucky to call him my friend.

He has a child with Down Syndrome and it is perhaps because of this that he feels the need to come to the rescue of children who are living in challenging situations or abject poverty.

We were both looking for a project to do with children and low and behold a Malawian woman appeared and told us about the plight of over 1 million children orphaned by AIDS in a small landlocked country in Africa.

Before we knew it we were visiting Malawi and that was the birth of our foundation: Raising Malawi.

Of course now that I know what I know, I realize that this did not happen by chance.

Once again the students were ready and the teacher appeared. In this case the children of Malawi are the teachers.

They have taught me so much. And they continue to teach me.

As do Michael and Eitan.

U.S. VP Joe Biden gives Israel nod to hit Iran

IDFAmerica’s 233rd Independence Day celebrations were barely over, when U.S. Vice President Joe Biden Apparently set the stage for some “fireworks” of his own by announcing that on the during a television interview on ABC, that “the USA will not stand in the way of Israel if it wants to launch an air strike on Iran”. Biden continued in the interview by saying that “the USA cannot dictate to an independent country (like Israel) what they can or can’t do (in regards to their personal defense). Israel has to decide by itself what its ultimate interest is in regards to Iran”.

The timing of the interview, given in the aftermath of the hard-line crackdown by the Iranian government on opponents to the results in the June 12th elections there, and at the same time his boss, President Barack Obama left for a two visit with Russian leaders in Moscow (where the situation in Iran will surely be discussed), appears to leave Israel’s “Iranian option” apparently wide open. There may be other reasons for Biden’s remarks, as the former head of the powerful U.S. Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee is not a stranger to what is going on in the world in the aftermath of the September 11 attack on America by the Islamic extremist Al Qaeda organization. There may be other reasons too, as the Democratic administration is surely remembering the aftermath of Iran’s 1978 Islamic Revolution, occurring during the Carter Administration; as well as the capture and imprisonment of the American Embassy Staff members for more than 400 days – which only ended after Carter’s successor, Ronald Reagan, entered the White House in 1981.

Another recent development that hay have influenced Biden’s remarks were remarks made by the Iranian leadership in which they didn’t see anything different in the new Obama Administration from the former one lead by George Bush, despite Obama’s “reaching out to Islam remarks” made during Obama’s recent visit to Cairo. It does appear, however, that Obama’s remarks did have an influence on some M.E. countries, as the Saudi government also appears to have said that they will not object if Israel (still formerly at war with Israel) uses their airspace to attack Iran.

It might also be noted that the new Israeli Ambassador to the USA, Dr. Michael Oren, warned what would happen if the Iranians succeeded in hitting Israel with a nuclear bomb that “could destroy Israel in a few seconds like Hitler tried to do with European Jewry in WWII”.

So what’s left now – a time table, or venue date (like Madonna’s upcoming concert in Tel Aviv, for example)? It’s reckoned this event, if now in the works, won’t be announced beforehand, as Iran is not a push-over like Iraq was when Israel attacked it in 1981. And for sure, Israeli government officials aren’t giving out any ‘flight plans’ with Mossad chief, Meir Dagan, assuring everyone that Israeli P.M. Bibi Netanyahu “will ignore such remarks”. IAF spokespersons have said, however, that “Israel doesn’t need a formal clearance from either the USA or a country like Saudi Arabia to conduct an operation (against an enemy such as Iran) that is in Israel’s national interest”.

These events, especially on the anniversary of the America’s independence from British tyranny, make one remember those sterling words written by Revolutionary War patriot and writer Thomas Paine when he wrote: “These are the times that try men’s souls”. Indeed!

For the Sake of the Child

Madonna and child
It seems that no matter how hard they try international celebrities just can’t have their privacy. This fact is even more so concerning such acts as adopting a child from an underdeveloped country. Film and pop music star Madonna’s problems concerning her attempt to adopt David, an African baby from the poverty stricken country of Malawi, have gone from bad to worse, as the natural father is now reneging on his acceptance of a deal he made with the American mega-star, claiming he didn’t realize at the time that the child would leave him forever, “I thought he would only be raised and educated in America, and then returned to me to help me on my farm” the now ‘perplexed’ man was quoted assaying. Perplexed, or just holding out for a larger compensation offer from a woman who he found out is even wealthier than his village Chief. Surely, the lad is worth at least 100 milch goats, and not just the 10 or 15 he is being offered to allow his child to be spirited away to the same country that ‘spirited’ thousands of Malawians away and then sold them into human bondage, more than two hundred years ago.

Madonna, who even enlisted the assistance of black talk show host Ophrah Winfrey to lend her a hand, now accuses media sensationalism as being responsible for killing the deal. Other American entertainment personalities, including Angelina Jolie and Brittany Spears have either adopted or are planning to adopt African children. Angelina, who adopted an Ethiopian baby, orphaned by AIDS, probably was wise to make sure there were no biological parents around to complicate the process. Due to the literally thousands of African infants and small children orphaned by famine, war, AIDS and other diseases, there is more than ample supply of children for these film and music personalities to choose from; which would lift a small child from a future of grinding poverty, and even death, into a world where the child would be given a lifestyle that 99% of the residents of the African Continent can only dream of.

“And why not?” asked a prominent South African social worker who has devoted a good part of her life to trying to assist the many poor African residents of her country. “If this process is done discreetly and without media fanfare, why not give such a child an opportunity he or she might otherwise never have”. South Africa itself has a very serious problem with AIDS and HIV among its poorer populations, with the result being many children being orphaned when both parents die from the dreaded disease.

“Spiriting away” a few hundred African children will not solve that Continent’s overpopulation, and other range of socio-economic problems. But at least it will give a handful of deserving children the chance for a better and healthier life than they would have otherwise. If only the media would stay out of the lives of these well-meaning celebrities, even if vanity does play a part.
